Information for Defendants

Service of Briefs during COVID:

  1. Where briefs are delivered by ACT Policing in E brief format – this will be disclosed using the Sharepoint system
  2. Where briefs are delivered in hard copy from ACT Policing, one of two methods of service will occur:
    1. The DPP may convert a hard copy brief into an electronically disclosable brief. Service will thereafter be effected by Sharepoint or alternatively via email.
    2. The DPP will arrange a contactless “drop point system” outside the office entry to the Reserve Bank Building.

Service by email (if utilised)

  1. Prior to service by email, the Director will require the individual to provide a verifiable email address (e.g. legal representative; email listed on court record; or copy of ID sent to the DPP from the proposed email address).
  2. The Director will need to verify prior to emailing.
  3. If verification cannot occur, contactless delivery will be required.

    Contactless delivery via drop point

  4. You will be notified that a brief is ready for collection.
  5. When you are ready to collect the brief, please call our office on 6207 5399 to obtain a nominated time to attend.
  6. It is necessary for identification to be displayed demonstrating that you are either (i) the nominated defendant, (ii) the legal representative or delegate of such. This will need to be displayed through the DPP glass reception door.
  7. Once ID has been confirmed, we ask that you step back from the door and maintain social distancing (1.5 metres). The brief will then be left immediately outside the front door for you to collect.

This process is being instituted to protect both you and our staff. Please be respectful during these times and stay safe.
