Guiding principles

DPP media engagement guiding principles include:

1. support the administration of justice and integrity of the criminal justice system,
2. respect the principle of open justice and recognise the role of media in the public accessing and receiving accurate and timely information about criminal proceedings,
3. a trauma-informed approach that ensures victims’ and witnesses’ dignity and privacy is considered in a compassionate and considered way. Minimisation of re-traumatisation is considered alongside public interest,
4. respect the presumption of innocence and right to a fair trial.
